Left Edge Theatre moving to new digs

Santa Rosa’s Left Edge Theatre, a resident theatre company of the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts since its opening in 2015, has announced a relocation scheduled for September of this year.

Left Edge and its associated Young Actors Studio will become resident theatre companies at The California, a new 199-seat cabaret-style theater scheduled to open at 528 7th Street in downtown Santa Rosa in September. The building has previously housed a series of nightclubs including Society: Culture House and Seven Ultralounge as well as Shuffles Magical Ice Cream Shoppe. Its most recent occupant was the Best of Burma 2 restaurant.

Building on the legacy of Santa Rosa’s original vaudeville California Theatre (1923-77), The California will offer a variety of cultural activities, including live music, comedy, theatre, dance, lectures, classes and more.

Left Edge sees the move as an opportunity for the company to integrate more fully into the vibrant Santa Rosa arts scene and contribute to the city’s current plans to revitalize the city center.

“We are immensely grateful to the Luther Burbank Center for all the support they have provided us during the last seven years,” said Argo Thompson, Left Edge Theatre’s founding artistic director and current CEO. “We are now thrilled to have the opportunity to move to a significantly bigger space and look forward to being part of Santa Rosa’s downtown arts community, starting with welcoming our audiences to Fun Home in September.”
