The Sonoma theatre community gathered in Andrews Hall at the Sonoma Community Center for Sonoma Arts Live’s 2019 – 2020 season announcement. Attendees were treated to sweets, champagne and musical performances by Sarah Wintermeyer and Daniela Innocenti Beem as SAL Executive Artistic Director Jaime Love announced their “Season to Remember” of six productions. They are:
Merman’s Apprentice – This “musical fable” about a 12-year old girl who enters Ethel Merman’s orbit will star Daniela Innocenti Beem and be co-directed by Jamie Love and Larry Williams. The season opener will run September 27 through October 13, 2019.
A Christmas Story: The Musical – This musical take on the classic holiday perennial will be directed by The Theater School’s founder Libby Oberlin and will run December 6 – 22, 2019.
Enchanted April – Larry Williams will direct this adaptation of Elizabeth von Arnim’s 1922 novel The Enchanted April about a “ladies only” holiday in Italy. It will run January 24 through February 9, 2020.
The Taffetas – Girl Groups of the ’50’s like the Maguire Sisters and the Chordettes get the “jukebox” treatment in this musical trip down memory lane to be directed by Always… Patsy Cline‘s Michael Ross. It will run May 1 – 17, 2020.
Laughter on the 23rd Floor – Ross will stick to the ’50’s when he helms this Neil Simon comedy based on Simon’s time as a writer during television’s “Golden Age” on such programs as Sid Caesar’s Your Show of Shows. It will run June 5 – 21, 2020.
Sunset Boulevard – Dani Beem takes on Norma Desmond in this musical adaptation of Billy Wilder’s classic 1950 film with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Carl Jordan will direct the season closer which will run July 17 through August 2, 2020.
